Wild Beauty Award 2018 held in Cetinje

The 14th Annual Awards ceremony “Wild Beauty Award 2018”, organised by the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, was held at the Government House in Cetinje. This ceremony’s primary purpose is to grant awards for individuals and organisations for their excellent work and outstanding contribution to improve the quality of the tourist offer of Montenegro. On this occasion, a total of 5 awards and 4 official acknowledgement letters were granted to individuals and organisations for their contribution. At the 2018 Awards, the “Hotel of the Year Award” went to Chedi Hotel Luštica bay, while the “Destination of the Year Award” was given to Porto Montenegro. The “Restaurant of the Year Award” was given to the representatives of “Murano Restaurant” Hotel Regent Porto Montenegro, while KotorArt festival claimed the “Event of the Year Award”. The WBA 2018 also awarded “Drobni pijesak - Tiny Sand Budva” with the “Best Beach of the 2018 Season”.

The Award Ceremony was attended by Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović, Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Pavle Radulović, Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović, Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro Radoje Žugić, Mayor of Cetinje Aleksandar Kašćelan and numerous officials from tourism sector, cultural and public life.

According to the President of Montenegro, today tourism is the primary field of Montenegrin economic activity and the successes in this and other service activities would not have been possible without the great historical achievements that Montenegro achieved in the meantime.

“Twelve years ago, we reaffirmed Montenegrin independence and today, our country is a NATO member and a leader in European integration. A GDP growth of 4,7% recorded in the last year was further accelerated in the first half of this year. Tourism participates with more than 20% of GDP. ”said Djukanovic.

Đukanovic added: “The number of tourists in 2017 amounted to about 2 million, and the results achieved in the nine months of this year exceeded the traffic generated in the previous one. Our carefully designed policy of sustainable development in tourism has given and gives excellent results and contribution to overall progress. Today, in Montenegro we have world renowned and prestigious brands such as Aman, Porto Montenegro, Luštica Bay, Porto Novi. With our responsible investment policy we managed to gain the interest of the world’s largest hotel brands: Hilton, Regent, Sheraton, One and Only, Chedi. The improvement of the tourist offer is convincingly shown by the fact that in the past 5 years, 115 hotels with 4 or 5 stars have been opened in Montenegro. The number of tourists and overnight stays is constantly growing from year to year.

Đukanović concluded that this is the right path for reaching the European quality of life, creating new jobs and increasing GDP.
